One thing that I have learned along the way is that the Christian life is not meant to be walked alone. This is not something I always appreciated, not the way I do now. See, I grew up in the 90s (LOL... that should explain it all!), it was taught to me that Jesus was my personal Lord and Savior (and He is), and that "it's not about religion but my personal relationship with Jesus" alone. Although there is truth to this, in some sense, it leaves out the fact that we are a body, a bride, a congregation, a people, a church, basically only an individual part of a whole. The very hyper-individualistic perspective I grew up learning and even teaching was a disservice to myself and others, as the body of Christ does not work in that way, never has, even since Adam. Even he, as the first and only human needed another; he too couldn't do it alone, he needed help!
Today, I have an appreciation for the historical tradition, identity, and richness of my faith (My Sunday school teachers are probably rolling in their graves right now! Tradition?), faults and all! I am part of the Holy Catholic Church, "Wait, I thought you said you were Baptist?" LOL, I am. What I mean by the above, is what it means in the traditional and original sense, the Universal body of Christ. The Holy Catholic Church means and expresses the notion of the universal church, all the true spiritual people of God, of all time, and everywhere, dead or alive. This is not a reference to the Roman Catholic Church of today (this will one day be a blog post). The universal church, now that's something to be a part of, and to really hold on to!
The resources listed here point to everything I say above. I realize that I don't agree with everything my brothers (and/or sisters) my say through their books, blogs, podcast, or teachings, but these resources have helped me along the way, in one way or another. This is just a list, but for full book reviews or opinions on anyone/anything, well, that's what my blog, and in the near future podcast/vlog, will be all about.
You can thank me later... Now go check 'em out! Enjoy!
I hope that you find the R&R that I list here to be helpful. With that said, I'm not affiliated with any of the people, pages, books, organizations listed here below. I do not make or get anything from making these shout outs. They are simply things or people that have blessed me along the way. Also, I do not necessarily agree with everything they may say, believe, teach, or express in any way. Finally, to the people, organizations, pages, and/or entities who I mention, if you would like me to take anything down that is yours, please just reach out and ask me to, I will do so immediately. Thanks Everyone!
